Louisa & Ian’s Summer Wedding at Dunston Hall, Derbyshire.
Louisa and Ian’s Summer Wedding at Dunston Hall, Derbyshire. Photographed by Yorkshire and UK Wedding Photographer, Laura Wood Photography.
Louisa and Ian were married this July at Dunston Hall in a relaxed and intimate ceremony. Colourful summer florals and the many beautiful spaces of Dunston Hall meant that every moment of this wedding was stunning. Dunston Hall feels both intimate and impressive at the same time - its quintessential English charm and modern approach to weddings makes for a gorgeous wedding venue where every corner feels like the perfect opportunity for photographs.

Joyful summer florals decorated the cake by Pink Peony Celebration Cakes. The wedding breakfast space at Dunston Hall is charming with beautiful light and neutral coloured walls and floors which makes it so easy for couples to personalise the room.

Louisa and Ian’s ceremony. Tip for your wedding day - hold that kiss for a little longer so we can swap places with whoever is officiating! It gives us more time to get into the perfect position and means we may also be able to capture glimpses of your guests reactions in the background.
Huge grey clouds may not be what you wish for on your wedding day but they make for gorgeous, dramatic skies in photographs.

Louisa and Ian’s day was a joy to photograph and Dunston Hall was the perfect venue to bring their wedding vision to life. I can’t recommend Dunston hall enough - the team are so professional, caring and friendly and they made sure the day ran like a dream. With the mixed weather this summer has brought us it was wonderful to have the option of beautiful indoor spaces for portraits as well as being able to use the grounds when the rain stopped.
If you’re planning a wedding at Dunston Hall and would like to have a chat about your photography then I would love to hear from you! You can read about our approach to weddings and get in touch here.

Elin & Will at Burtonfields Hall, York.
Elin and Will were married at Burtonfields Hall in York this May. Their wedding was relaxed, intimate and gorgeous.
Elin and Will got married this May at Burtonfields Hall, York. Elin and Will wanted the day to feel relaxed, intimate and joyful and it was all of those things. The weather was beautiful and Burtonfields’ grounds were awash with sunlight and colour. Elin and Will are the most lovely, laid-back couple and the most important thing for them was that they were with one another and all the people they love.
Burtonfields Hall is the most beautiful private home and is fast becoming one of my favourite wedding venues. The attention to detail is second to none and the venue’s old drawing and living rooms make this the perfect space for couples who want their wedding to feel intimate. Despite the venue’s history and stylish decor it succeeds hugely as feeling like home.
Elin, Will and some of their guests stayed the night before in Burtonfields’ stunning bedrooms. Elin and Will chose to get ready together which felt intimate and gorgeously romantic.
Time alone before getting married.
Elin’s beautiful pre-loved wedding dress was chosen with sustainability in mind. The previous owner said they hoped it had gone to a good home and it definitely had.
Elin and Will’s wedding ceremony took place in Burtonfields Hall Billiard Room. Each said their own vows and the spring breeze filled the room as the doors to the grounds were kept open.
Floral design was by sustainable florist Clock Dandelion. The flowers were so vibrant and joyful and worked beautifully with the vibe of the day.

After the ceremony everyone headed out into the May sunshine to throw confetti, enjoy a drink and one another’s company.

We took some time with Elin and Will to make portraits of the two of them. We chose to do this at two different times of day so that the light and mood felt different each time. This is a beautiful way of ensuring your photographs tell the full story of your wedding day - you want to remember how the light and breeze felt, how the sky looked, how the flowers danced and how the birds sounded as you enjoy a few moments alone as a couple.

Speeches were meaningful, emotional and gorgeous. Speeches were followed by a meal by Dom’s Kitchen. We were lucky enough to enjoy the meal too and the asparagus tart is one of the nicest things I have ever eaten!

Burtonfields Halls stylish and charming decor makes the perfect backdrop for photographs inside the house.
The bow in Elin’s loose curls was such a gorgeous detail.
The day ended with a ceilidh with music by The Tartan Trio.
It was such a joy to be part of Elin and Will’s wedding day. In Will’s speech he said that Elin radiates love but they both do. Their day was truly representative of who they are as a couple and Burtonfields Hall was the perfect setting for their late spring wedding.

Leonie & Chris’ Micro-wedding at Barnsley Town Hall.
Leonie and Chris’ intimate, micro-wedding at Barnsley Town Hall, Yorkshire.
Leonie and Chris recently hired me to photograph their intimate micro-wedding at Barnsley Town Hall. They needed a wedding photographer who was happy to capture a couple of hours to tell the story of their day - micro-weddings are becoming more and more popular and I firmly believe that every couple should have beautiful photographs to look back on, no matter how big or intimate their day is. I love micro-weddings and elopements and my own wedding was very small and informal. Like Leonie and Chris we only had our closest family members at the ceremony but having beautiful, natural and artistic photographs was still a priority for me. As a photographer, I know how much value photographs hold and every couple I work with has my full energy on their wedding day, whether I’ve been hired for a couple of hours or the entire day.

There’s something about town hall weddings which feels both timeless and rock and roll to me. I’ve worked at Barnsley Town Hall, Sheffield Town Hall, Doncaster Register Office and York Register Office and each location offers plenty of great backdrops for beautiful wedding photographs. Click here to see a micro-wedding in York Register Office and here to see Sheffield & Kelham Island weddings.
Leonie’s bouquet was made from dried flowers and was arranged by her mum. Leonie’s dress felt both modern and timeless and I loved her short veil!

A short thirty minute walk was long enough to create some beautiful, natural and artistic images to tell the story of their wedding day. I also made sure to capture photographs of their children enjoying the day.
It was an honour to play a part in Leonie and Chris’ wedding day at Barnsley Town Hall. Planning a micro-wedding? I would love to hear from you! You can read more about weddings and contact me here.

Emily & Glen’s Summer Wedding at Barnsley Town Hall & The Woodhead Barn, Holmfirth.
Emily and Glen’s relaxed summer wedding at Barnsley Town Hall and The Woodhead Barn, Holmfirth.
I spent the morning with Emily while she got ready at her at her family home in Barnsley with her closest friends and family. Laura at Craft Makeup was there to give Emily the wedding makeup of her dreams including the most perfect red lip which complimented the deep and vibrant colours of the day. Paul (my husband and assistant photographer) spent the morning with Glen and once Glen and friends were ready they headed into Barnsley for a pint and some casual portraits.

Emily and her dad were taken to Barnsley Town Hall in the most amazing vintage Beetle which made for beautiful, unique photographs.

Emily and Glen had an intimate and relaxed ceremony at Barnsley Town Hall. Barnsley Town Hall is a great venue for civil wedding ceremonies - the team are lovely, the building is beautiful and there are plenty of pubs and unique places for photographs nearby.

After the wedding ceremony Emily and Glen headed up to their reception at The Woodhead Barn in Holmfirth. The Woodhead Barn is perfect for people wanting a beautiful but informal vibe for their wedding day. The barn is surrounded by beautiful countryside and the grounds are large enough to have a tipi/marquee. Details included potted plants which doubled as wedding favours, a mixture of glass bottles, fairy lights and hand picked flowers.

Speeches were relaxed with both Emily, Glen and their parents and friends making speeches. I will always remember Emily saying “I travelled all around the world to find the love of my life and he was in Barnsley all along”
Emily and her bridesmaids who wore gorgeous, burnt orange dresses.
Emily and Glen knew they wanted their dog to be there for some of the photos - they had a friend bring him along for ten minutes but you can hire people to do this too! If your pet is a big part of your life then it makes sense that they’re included in the day. We took a little time after the speeches to make some unique portraits of Emily and Glen but their priority for their wedding photography was to have lots of lovely, natural images of everyone just enjoying the day.
Emily and Glen kept the meal super informal by hiring a fish and chip van. After fish and chips there were lots of locally produced cakes which people could help themselves to. This is such a nice way to keep things relaxed if you’re having an informal wedding. Later in the evening a Duke’s Pizza van arrived - safe to say the guests were very well fed at this wedding!
A band played in the evening and Emily and Glen danced their first dance to ‘I Wanna Be Yours’ by the Arctic Monkeys.
Emily and Glen’s summer wedding was the perfect example of doing your day, your way. They’re such a relaxed and joyful couple and to have made their wedding day anything but informal would have felt so wrong for them. The day was so chilled from start to finish and relaxed weddings hold just as much meaning as the more traditional ones. Emily and Glen’s laidback nature was the perfect fit for our style of photography - we love to take natural, joyful images alongside artistic portraits, giving people a collection of images that transport them back to exactly how their wedding day felt.
